Hanford Prep - Testimonial Curiosity & Creativity

A Unique Blend of Curiosity & Creativity

At Hanford, our blend of Focus and Freedom offers girls the best of both worlds:

The structure to engage wholeheartedly in learning—and the space to follow their own curiosity. This nurturing balance empowers each child to excel academically, grow confidently as an individual, and develop lifelong passions.

All within the embrace of a caring, homely community.

Curiosity

At Hanford, curiosity isn’t just encouraged—it’s celebrated.

From exploring new academic subjects to experimenting in Debating Club or discovering life outdoors, every girl is invited to keep asking “what if?” and “why not?” Whether it’s uncovering the secrets of science in the classroom, riding through our Dorset woodlands, or learning a new language from Year 3, curiosity sparks confident, thoughtful minds who strive to understand the wider world.

Our Hanford Hundred enrichment programme further nurtures that questioning spirit—encouraging girls to challenge themselves by setting goals like learning to sew, debating a topic or learning to map read.

It’s this invitation to explore—guided yet open-ended—that helps each girl discover what fascinates her and grow in confidence and self-belief.

Creativity

Creativity flows through every corner of Hanford life.

In art, pottery, handwork or dressmaking, each girl is encouraged to explore lots of different ways to be hands-on and inventive—from printmaking and wire sculpture to machine embroidery and even designing her own dress for senior school interviews. Our beautiful Art Barn is a vibrant hub where girls dream big, design and make incredible clothes and more, and learn that every idea—no matter how bold or quirky— is worth exploring.

But it’s not just about the obvious creative subjects; creativity is woven through daily life. Our trips, workshops, storytelling, debating sessions, pony grooming as well as all our lessons all feed into a creative mindset that encourages problem solving, confidence and collaboration.

When creativity becomes a habit rather than a one off activity, it shapes girls who believe in their own ideas—who can look at any challenge and say, “Let’s find a different way.”
