Hanford Prep - Testimonial Focus & Freedom

A Unique Blend of Focus & Freedom

At Hanford, our blend of Focus and Freedom offers girls the best of both worlds: the structure to engage wholeheartedly in learning—and the space to follow their own curiosity. This nurturing balance empowers each child to excel academically, grow confidently as an individual, and develop lifelong passions.

All within the embrace of a caring, homely community.

Focus

At Hanford, we believe a focused mind is an interested mind—curious, switched on, and eager to explore ideas further.

When girls see that what they’re learning matters, they naturally tune in, ask questions and want to know more.

Our small classes of around 10 girls mean our specialist teachers can give each pupil the time and space to think deeply—whether she’s translating a Latin passage, building a science experiment or learning her French vocabulary. Lessons are lively, relevant and full of gentle challenge, sparking thoughtful discussion and independent thinking.

In Computing, girls learn to code, analyse data and understand digital safety—always with real-world purpose, and without the distractions of personal phones or screens.

This calm, purposeful environment allows every girl to focus fully and grow her confidence, quietly and steadily.

Freedom

At Hanford, Freedom means just that.

We give girls the space—and trust—to be children. To climb trees, build dens, invent games, care for ponies, or simply get gloriously muddy. There are no prescribed playtimes or fixed activities during breaks; instead, girls decide how to spend their free time, whether organising a race across the lawn or curling up with a book in a favourite corner.

This freedom is rare—and precious. It teaches independence, nurtures imagination, and helps girls develop confidence in their choices. They’re not rushed from one activity to the next, but encouraged to follow their own rhythms, and find joy in unstructured time.

It's this gentle breathing space, woven into the rhythm of each day, that makes childhood at Hanford feel so free, so full of possibility—and so hard to forget.
