Vision & Values | Sherborne Girls School

Our Vision

At Sherborne Girls, our strategy is rooted in clarity of purpose and a bold, future-facing vision.

It builds on our full-boarding heritage and Christian values — ensuring every girl continues to benefit from a transformative education that empowers her to thrive in a changing world.

Our Strategic Goals

Our strategy focuses on three Strategic Goals to ensure girls continue to benefit from a unique Sherborne Girls’ experience and world-class education. These are underpinned by six Core Pillars, which outline our educational priorities.

Our Strategic Plan for 2024 and beyond is summarised in this booklet and below.

Educational Offering

We will refine our offering – focusing on what our families value and shaping, adapting and investing in our provision to deliver a world-class education.

Financial Resilience

We will build financial resilience – maximising our estate, the shape of the School and non-fee income to endure the external challenges and ensure we continue to thrive.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

We recognise that each individual brings their own unique story and lived experience.

At Sherborne Girls, we don’t claim to have all the answers — but we are committed to listening, learning and leading respectful conversations.

We strive to treat every member of our community with dignity, fairness and kindness.

We value the rich diversity that strengthens our school and seek to build a true sense of belonging for all.

Our Values

The golden thread running through every story we help shape.

Everything we do at Sherborne Girls is grounded in five core values that shape our culture and guide every girl’s journey:

  • Curious – Inquisitive and imaginative, Sherborne girls embrace challenge and pursue excellence with enthusiasm.
  • Courageous – Bold and adventurous, they take risks, learn from setbacks and lead with resilience.
  • Compassionate – Kind, principled and thoughtful, they make a positive impact on those around them.
  • Adaptable – Open-minded and agile, they thrive in change and celebrate diversity.
  • Spiritual – Grounded in Christian values, they reflect, care and lead with empathy and integrity.
These values underpin every part of the transformative education we offer — in the classroom, on the playing field, on stage and in the world beyond school.

Environmental Responsibility

Sherborne Girls recognises an environmental and climate emergency at a global, national and local level.

We are acting to minimise our negative impact on the environment by focusing on four key areas: waste; operational energy use; estate development and transport.

As an organisation we aim to be carbon-neutral by 2030 through:

  1. Increasing understanding amongst staff, pupils and our wider community
  2. Reducing our carbon footprint
  3. Promoting courage, adaptability and resilience to influence change.

Sherborne Girls was the first school to sign up to Operation Future Hope and together with our Sherborne Schools Group partner, Sherborne Boys, and The Gryphon, we have already completed the successful re-wilding of large areas within our grounds.

We are proud to be featured in the Independent Schools Council, White Paper 2023 on Sustainability.
