Sherborne was founded on philanthropy. From its earliest days, the generosity of donors has shaped every stage of the School’s journey – from the building of the chapel and classrooms, to the creation of the Music School and the new Sports Centre.
But The Foundation is not just about bricks and mortar. It exists to change lives.
Transformative Bursaries
Sherborne’s bursary programme is life-changing.
In 2024, around 90 boys received means-tested bursaries, allowing them to access a world-class education they might not otherwise have had.
These awards allow us to welcome boys from a wide range of backgrounds – boys who enrich our community with their kindness, energy, and commitment. Many of them go on to become leaders and role models, shaped by the care and opportunity Sherborne provides. But The Foundation is not just about bricks and mortar. It exists to change lives.
Today, many of our most remarkable boys are only able to attend Sherborne thanks to means-tested bursaries – supported by Old Shirburnians, parents, and friends who believe in the transformative power of this education.

Leaving a Legacy: The Bow Society
Leaving a gift to Sherborne in your Will is one of the most meaningful ways to give back. It ensures that your values live on, and that future generations of Shirburnians continue to benefit from the School you believe in.
The Bow Society was created in 1998 to honour and thank those who have pledged to leave a legacy to Sherborne. Named after Charles Bow, whose gift of land enabled the founding of Sherborne International, the Society recognises not just generosity, but vision.
