Co-Curricular Programme
At Sherborne Girls, education goes far beyond the classroom.
Our co-curricular programme is a cornerstone of the transformative education we offer - inspiring girls to explore their talents, embrace new experiences and grow in confidence.
Character in Action
Rooted in our five core values, the programme offers a rich variety of opportunities across music, drama, sport, creative arts, outdoor adventure, and cultural and intellectual exploration.
Whether performing on stage, competing on the pitch, debating global issues or discovering a new passion, every girl is encouraged to find her voice and stretch herself.
This is transformative education beyond the classroom - where girls learn not only new skills, but more about who they are and who they want to become.
Our extensive range of clubs and societies complements the academic curriculum, encouraging curiosity, creativity and connection.
Allowing Girls to Choose Their Own Path
From Model UN to textiles, coding to choirs, girls are free to follow their interests and uncover new ones along the way.
Through our Adventure and Outdoor Education programme, girls build resilience and leadership while giving back through volunteering and charitable outreach. Opportunities such as the Leiths Introduction to Confident Cooking also equip them with valuable, practical life skills.
Co-curricular life at Sherborne Girls shapes character, strengthens community, and empowers girls to thrive — at school and far beyond.

Beyond the Classroom
Our Co-Curricular programme 'Beyond the Classroom' is designed to help pupils make the most of their time at Sherborne Girls by grouping activities under the following seven pillars.
- Academic Enrichment … where curiosity thrives, critical thinking blossoms and intellectual boundaries are stretched.
- Personal Skills & Development … where self-discovery grows, collaboration prospers and life skills are honed.
- Creative & Performing Arts … where artistic expression extends the imagination, feeds the soul and frees the spirit.
- Sport, Health & Fitness … where physical activity complements wellbeing, team spirit cultivates compassion, and a healthy body promotes a healthy soul.
- Adventure & Leadership … where risk-taking builds courage, courage builds inner confidence and then determination and resilience ensue.
- Community, Environment & Outreach … where care, kindness and compassion foster a culture of generosity, empathy and benevolence.
- House Spirit & Fun … where camaraderie and bonds of friendship are cemented for life!
By way of example...
- Our Friday Lecture Series broadens our pupils’ horizons, providing them with a series of mini adventures, life lessons and inspirational stories. Topics are wide ranging and pupils can join the visiting speaker after their lecture for supper with the Head to explore their specialist topic in more depth.
- Pupils can take part in our Annual Exchange Programme with a number of schools around the world with whom we have close links.
- Girls have recently taken part in exchanges to St Mary’s Waverley, Johannesburg; Launceston Church Grammar School, Tasmania; St Peter’s, Adelaide and Branksome Hall, Toronto. Pupils apply and are interviewed for a place on the programme. Successful applicants also host their exchange partners when they visit Sherborne Girls.
- Leiths Introduction to Confident Cooking is one of our most popular Sixth Form options — a nationally recognised course (add link) that equips girls with essential life skills, confidence and creativity in the kitchen. Spanning five terms, the programme blends classical techniques with modern, globally inspired dishes, covering everything from vegetable prep and pastry to meat, fish and food hygiene.
As well as gaining a valuable qualification, girls enjoy sociable, hands-on sessions that result in something delicious at the end of each one. Whether cooking for themselves at university, entertaining friends, or working in a chalet or deli during a gap year, this course offers a practical, empowering foundation — and a lot of fun along the way.
