Grounds and Gardening - Hanford Boarding School for Girls

Grounds & Gardening

At Hanford Prep, nature is part of the curriculum.

Our girls roam lawns shaded by ancient trees, gather apples in the orchard, and learn to climb the legendary cedar within their first week.

Expert Gardening Facilities

The walled and kitchen gardens—each nearly two acres—are alive with colour and purpose.

Girls tend their own plots, help harvest fruit and vegetables for the kitchen, and even use our famous Hanford lemons for marmalades and cakes. In summer, flower garlands bloom in hair and on windowsills.

The Forest School, opened in 2020 and led by Mrs Rawlingson Plant, adds bushcraft to the mix—fire lighting, whittling, and wildlife spotting are all regular pursuits.

More Than Just a School

Every inch of Hanford Prep's grounds is used for learning and joy.

The front lawn becomes a stage, a classroom, a tennis court. Cradled between Hambledon and Hod Hills, and near the River Stour, Hanford is more than a school—it’s an invitation to explore, discover, and grow.
