Music at Hanford Prep
Music is an integral part of life at Hanford Prep; no day passes without a song or some impromptu piano playing.
Nearly every child plays one musical instrument and many play two. There is a choir for each year group, which any child may join, plus a Chapel Choir, to which entry is by audition.
There are also various Ensembles, including an Orchestra and our vey popular Folk Group.

Learning a Musical Instrument
Hanford Prep has a wide range of instruments on offer to the budding musician and can always find a teacher to cater for more unusual options.
In this our Director of Music is supported by our talented Visiting Music Teachers (VMTs). On arrival, where appropriate, girls are encouraged to try a couple of options before finding an instrument that they will enjoy learning.
Many of our girls sit ABRSM music exams each term – with some reaching Grade 5. Our Choirs also perform outside of the school in different venues.
As well as Classical music, we love to perform musical theatre and in the last few years we have done whole school productions of the Lion King, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and this year we will be performing Matilda.
School Orchestra & Bands
Learning to play as part of a group or ensemble is important at Hanford Prep.
As so many girls choose to learn an instrument we are able to offer different groups to join. Girls are encouraged to perform on a weekly basis in our Chapel Services as well as our termly concerts, Open Mornings and our showcase concert on Parents’ Day..
Every child sings in the school’s Carol Service. Girls leave Hanford with a love of music that we hope will carry them through their lives.
