Sixth Form (Years 12 and 13) | Sherborne Girls School

Life in the Sixth Form

Our vibrant Sixth Form community of around 180 girls (known as Lower Sixth (L6) and Upper Sixth (U6)) offers the perfect environment for personal growth, academic stretch and preparation for life beyond school.

It’s a time of increasing independence — a bridge between the carefully structured routine of school life and preparation for university and/or the world of work.

Girls in U6 move into a residential Sixth Form House, Mulliner, where they enjoy greater independence; they are encouraged to take ownership of their learning, helped to manage their time wisely, and engage deeply with the subjects and ideas that inspire them. There’s a strong focus on self-motivation, intellectual curiosity and building confidence —all within a warm and supportive environment.

Academic Excellence & Choice

We offer a wide selection of A Levels, supported by an inspiring range of enrichment courses.

This includes Core Maths, one-year language courses and the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). A small number of lessons are delivered jointly with Sherborne Boys, expanding our curriculum offer even further.

Beyond the classroom, girls take part in a rich programme of societies, lectures and co-curricular enrichment, many of which are run in collaboration with Sherborne Boy and The Gryphon School.

Individual Support and Guidance

Our Sixth Form tutor system ensures every girl is known, supported and challenged.

Tutors provide guidance with subject choices, personal development and university applications, working closely with our specialist Sixth Form Staff Team. This includes the Head and Assistant Head of Sixth Form, the Assistant Head: Aspiration and Wellbeing, specialist advisors for Medical and Art Foundation pathways, and our Careers and Higher Education Coordinator.

We are particularly proud of the support we offer to Scholars, who benefit from a tailored programme led by our Assistant Head: Aspiration and Wellbeing — designed to stretch and inspire those aiming for the most competitive courses and institutions.

Joining the Sixth Form

We welcome applications from girls wishing to join our Sixth Form each year.

Scholarship assessments take place in November of Year 11. To find out more about how to apply and the scholarship options for Sixth Form see the admissions pages here.
