Tutoring and Reporting | Sherborne Girls School

Tutoring & Academic Support

Our bespoke tutoring system is central to the way we care for and support each pupil.

Every boarding house has a team of tutors drawn from the teaching staff, working closely with the housemistress or housemaster to ensure every girl receives truly personalised guidance — both academically and pastorally.

Tutors get to know their tutees well, offering encouragement, monitoring progress, and helping them grow in confidence. They advise on study habits, time management, subject choices, career goals and university aspirations — always with the girl’s strengths and ambitions at the heart of the conversation.

Tutorials happen across the school — in classrooms, house drawing rooms, or even over a hot chocolate at Queenie’s Café or the Sports Centre Coffee Pod. Tutors also join house lunch once a week, strengthening the connection between academic and boarding life.

This individual care is deeply valued by our pupils. For many, their tutor becomes one of the most trusted and influential figures in their school journey.

Reporting & Parent Communication

We know that girls flourish when school and home work in partnership. That’s why regular communication with parents is a key part of academic life at Sherborne Girls.

Each term, families receive either a detailed written report or attend a formal parents’ meeting. Grade reports are published via the Parent Portal on a set schedule, giving clear, timely insight into progress.

We also host a series of parent seminars throughout the year, covering key topics such as GCSE choices and Higher Education planning. These sessions are often followed by formal parents’ meetings — all bookable through our online system for convenience.

Many families now benefit from our popular online parents' meetings, enabling access to staff and seminars from wherever they are in the world.
