Trips | Sherborne Preparatory School

Little Legs, Big Adventures

From fossil hunts to Shakespeare – we take learning off road.

At Sherborne Prep, even our tiniest Pre-Preppers do not stay still for long. One minute they are paddling in the shallows at Weymouth Beach, the next they are clambering through mini assault courses on our playing fields or meeting lambs down on the farm. Trips are woven into every year group – not as a treat, but as a tool for learning discovery.

These early adventures help children find their feet (sometimes in wellies) and begin to understand the joy of learning through the world around them – be it digging for dinosaur bones or roasting marshmallows at dusk.

Campfires, Castles, & Cultural Quests

As they grow, so do the adventures.

Prep pupils might find themselves sleeping under the stars, building dens, or baking Tudor cakes in a shooting lodge once used by Henry VIII. Others step back in time through Roman villas, medieval battles, or Victorian classrooms – and occasionally forward in time with museum sleepovers and hands-on science labs.

Then there are the cultural capers: Shakespeare in Stratford, art in the capital, or music in the mountains.

These trips fuel creativity, spark ambition, and – crucially – make memories that stick far longer than just facts ever could.

We Climb, Splash, Ski, & Explore

We believe children learn best when they are a little windswept, a little muddy, and absolutely buzzing with excitement.

So, we pack our rucksacks and head out. We ski. We hike. We sail. We splash. We bounce. We breathe in mountain air and listen to silence beside glassy lakes. We also pause – to laugh, to reflect, to wander through fields of daffodils. Sometimes we even sit still (briefly) to meditate or just marvel at how beautiful the world can be.

Co-curricular trips at Sherborne Prep are designed to challenge, inspire, and broaden horizons – all while making sure our pupils never forget the sheer joy of being young, curious, and free to roam.
