Mr David Banks

Director of Sixth Form

David has held a variety of roles at Sherborne Girls, initially joining the school in 2006 as a Business, Geography and IT Teacher. In 2008 he was promoted to Head of Lower Sixth, moving to International Baccalaureate Coordinator and Assistant Head of Sixth Form in 2012 and in 2022 was promoted to Director of Sixth Form. He has played an instrumental role in developing the Sixth Form over the past fourteen years, helping to plan the existing Sixth Form Centre’s design and construction whilst driving a more diverse Sixth Form experience, introducing the Extended Project Qualification to Sherborne Girls in 2009.

Unmatched Student Support

As Director of Sixth Form, David leads on academic, pastoral, and co-curricular matters for pupils in Lower and Upper Sixth, supporting them with A Level choices, university applications and everything in between. He also works strategically to ensure our Sixth Form continues to offer girls a broad and challenging range of experiences. As a father of two daughters, he is passionate about female education and is excited to inspire the girls to continue aiming high.

Sherborne Girls is the third boarding school David has worked in, joining us with teaching experience from Millfield and Sexey’s School. He also worked for many years at Oxford University, teaching Economics for the International Baccalaureate at Oriel and Balliol Colleges. With family in the military, he has also taught many revision courses at The International School of Stuttgart, Germany. David read Accountancy at Cardiff University and after achieving the highest mark in his cohort was offered a position at Cardiff University to research the development of finance in Canada.

David is a keen sailor and in his free time has volunteered as a Youth Mentor at Tallships Youth Trust, sailing on their brigg Stavros S. Niarchos and sailing their Round the World Challenger yachts.
