Boarding at Sherborne Girls
At Sherborne Girls, full boarding isn’t just something we do - it’s who we are.
As Senior Deputy Head (Pastoral), I have the privilege of witnessing daily the warmth, laughter and strength of our boarding community. With over 90% of our girls boarding, the school is always alive and busy - and weekends are just as rich and fulfilling as weekdays.
Each of our Houses has its own personality, but all share the same home-from-home spirit. Our in-house dining brings girls and resident staff together around the table - not just to eat, but to talk, connect and look out for one another.
It’s during these everyday moments that real pastoral care happens.
We see every girl as an individual. Our job is to know her well - to understand what motivates her, support her when she needs it, and celebrate her as she grows. Our partnership with families is at the heart of this, and we take great pride in working together to ensure each girl is happy, healthy and flourishing.
Boarding life teaches our girls more than they realise - independence, resilience, and the quiet confidence to take responsibility for themselves and others.
By the time they reach U6, they’re more than ready for what comes next. And we are so proud of the young women they become.
As a full-boarding school, the Houses are where the girls retreat to after a busy day in lessons.
Our photo albums will give you an insight into what life in House is like, with more detailed information for each House contained below.
Weekends at Sherborne Girls —
Weekends at Sherborne Girls are an essential part of our full-boarding ethos - purposeful, lively, and filled with opportunities to relax, recharge and connect.
Opportunities for Challenge & Adventure —
Saturdays begin with a busy schedule of sporting fixtures, bringing together players and supporters in a shared spirit of competition and camaraderie. On Saturday evenings pupils enjoy a wide variety of social events - from House and year group gatherings to joint activities with Sherborne School.
These may include theatre trips, film festivals, live music events, formal suppers, fireworks at Sherborne Castle, cinema or bowling outings, a wellbeing evening or activities hosted in the Oxley Sports Centre.
Sundays are designed to provide both stimulation and space.
Afternoon trips and activities offer opportunities for challenge and adventure — whether through outdoor pursuits, leadership weekends, or inter-House competitions such as the Glee Cup.
In true Sherborne Girls fashion, our weekends strike a balance between activity and calm, community and rest — giving girls the space to recharge their batteries, try new things, and enjoy life together.
